Minimally invasive surgery

Roper St. Francis Healthcare is a regional leader in minimally invasive surgery. Minimally invasive surgery is performed through small incisions or natural body openings to minimizing trauma. Types of minimally invasive procedures:

  • Robotic Surgery

Robotic surgery

Robotic surgery, a minimally invasive technique, allows the surgeon to operate through a few small incisions while providing a 3-D high definition view. The tiny instruments that are used can bend and rotate well beyond the capabilities of the human wrist. The benefits of robotic surgery for you are a smaller scar, less pain, shorter hospital stay and a faster recovery.

Roper Hospital was the first hospital in the Lowcountry to offer this technology and today our surgeons have performed thousands of robotic surgeries. Roper Hospital is an internationally recognized colorectal robotic epicenter. This designation as a robotic epicenter means our program met a rigorous list of criteria and is a teaching center for this advanced colon cancer fighting tool.

Pre-admission testing

Pre-admission testing is necessary for all patients. Patients will need recent lab work (within 30 days) and some may be required to have other testing done before being cleared for their upcoming surgery. Your doctor or a nurse will give you instructions on what testing is necessary.

A parent or legal representative must accompany a minor (anyone under the age of 18) to his or her pre-admission testing appointment and on the day of surgery. Please let the pre-admission nurse know if the patient is not competent to give consent for treatment.

For pre-admission testing, please call: (843) 965-8205

Prior to your procedure you need to pre-register. You may pre-register by calling (843) 402-5100 to speak with a representative.
