What is the Transparency of Hospital Charges Rule and what does it mean to me as a patient?
Hospitals are now required by Medicare to post their charge master under the Requirement for Transparency of Hospital Charges Rule and the standard charges for each diagnosis-related group (DRG) as established under section 1886(d)(4) of the Social Security Act. The intention of the rule is to help patients understand their potential cost estimate and comparisons across facilities.
